Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: do they pay royalties?

Just an FYI - the GD covered approx. 334 songs from other performers. I would bet the house that royalties were paid when recordings were released,

Some covers are great, even arguably better than originals, some are "dead" on arrival. In the successful category, I'd make this (far from complete) list: Beat It on Down, Big River, Big RR Blues, Dancin' in the Street, Don't Ease, El Paso, GDTRFB, Good Lovin', H2H, IKYR, Iko Iko, Johnny B Goode, MAMU, Mama Tried, Morning Dew, New Minglewood, NFA, Peggy-O, Promised Land, Samson & Delilah, Spanish Jam, Lovelight, Viola Lee Blues, You Win Again. All songs with a complete GD treatment, making them their own.
